Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space district was recognized Saturday, July 14 with three NACPRO Award of Excellence for improvements at Lake Skinner Recreation Area, redesign of our RivCoParks’ website, and our Strategic Plan. Each year, the National Association of Park and Recreation Officials (NACPRO) recognizes “excellence in Park and Recreation endeavors throughout the nation at county levels for many successful park and recreation facilities, programs, and services.” The awards were presented at the association’s annual meeting in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
Lake Skinner Recreation Area – Nestled in the hills of Winchester, Lake Skinner Recreation Area is only a few miles east of the Temecula Wineries and within easy access of Interstates 15 and 215. Improvements at the Lake Skinner Recreation Area include a new amphitheater venue, water splash park, and multi-use trails, all of which take into consideration our communities needs and interpretation of the Riverside County Multi-Species Reserve, and continued hosting of the immensely popular Temecula Balloon and Wine Festival.
RivCoParks’ Website – Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District developed and launched an educational and recreational website that provides users a unique opportunity to experience a wide variety of facilities and services offered by the agency. As a result of the new website, RivCoParks has seen an increase of park visitors, camping reservations, and website hits. In addition, RivCoParks created a web presence on various social networks, including Facebook and Twitter. This new website supports the statewide Parks Make Life Better! ® branding campaign by raising awareness of the benefits of parks and recreation as essential community resources.
Strategic Plan – RivCoParks is being recognized as a leader in the industry. After launching our Strategic Plan we tripled the amount of awards we won since 2010. We brought home two CPRS and one NACPRO Award last year. We’re being selected as the top of our class when competing at state and national levels. This is all thanks to the hard work of dedicated employees within the District. From draft policies to guide our decisions, to planners dreaming of innovative designs, and the team to make those plans a reality. Everyone plays a key role in moving RivCoParks down the path of the Strategic Plan. Our Strategic Plan is providing quality facilities and programs for the the communities of Riverside County.
