RivCoParks Receives Award of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society

Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District (RivCoParks) received an Award of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society for the Drop Zone Waterpark in the category of Facility Design and was honored at the 2015 California and Pacific Southwest Recreation and Park Training Conference held in Sacramento, CA, March 11-13.

The Drop Zone Waterpark is located in Perris, California and opened in May 2014. The park features a Jet Stream Continuous River, Terminal Velocity Slides, Mat Racer, Hydroplane Double Flow Rider, Meridian Spring Pool, Sandbox Volleyball Courts and an Olympic-sized competition pool.
“The CPRS Awards of Excellence Riverside County Parks received this year is a credit to strong partnerships with the Economic Development Agency, the quality design firms we worked with on these projects and the Parks District staff who all worked hard to make this happen. Providing the finest quality recreational facilities for youth has been one of my top priorities for the Fifth District since I took office. Receiving this award is very gratifying for us, but the real enjoyment is visiting these facilities and watching our kids and other residents having quality recreation experiences. We are proud that RivCoParks has been recognized again for the quality facilities and programs provided to our residents,” said Marion Ashley, Riverside County Supervisor for the Fifth District.
CPRS Executive Director Stephane Stephens stated, “These agencies represent the finest in recreation programming and community-wide initiatives, park planning, facility design, and marketing and communications in California. CPRS is proud to recognize the excellent parks, recreation programs, services and facilities provided to Californians.”

The California Park & Recreation Society presented awards in 5 categories:
• Creating Community Award of Excellence
• Excellence in Design – Park Planning
• Excellence in Design – Facility Design
• Marketing & Communications Award of Excellence
• Professional & Service
