A variety of Student Intern positions are available on a quarterly/semesters basis. Student Interns have the opportunity to receive hands on experience in the area or areas of their interest.
Under supervision, interns assist and participate in the work performed by employees of a specific profession; through participation, to receive supervised work experience in a specific professional vocation; and to do other assignments as required.
Incumbents of this class are current university undergraduate or graduate students with a major study area directed towards a specific profession and departmental assignments. The incumbents are provided in-service training through participation in the actual duties and responsibilities assigned by professional employees. A partial list of typical professions that student interns may participate in includes accounting, administration, planning and marketing.

Examples of Essential Duties per Department:
Accounting Intern – Account Interns plan, coordinate and conduct studies of administrative, operational activities including fiscal operations, budget preparation and control. Compiles, monitors and researches data for reports and budget projections; assists in the preparation, or prepares, complex statistical and financial reports including reconciliation of various statements on a weekly/monthly basis.
Administrative Analyst Intern – Administrative Analysis Interns perform a wide variety of administrative services of moderate difficulty; to conduct standardized research studies; collect and provide technical data involving budgetary and/or operational process and/or perform contract monitoring; to recommend policies, procedures, systems and methods for the improvement of departmental services, operations or programs; and to do other work as required. Attends divisional staff meetings; prepares reports of suggestions and comments of observations regarding the various aspects of the department and programs. Information Tech Intern – Information Tech Interns receive user content and graphics, multi-media elements and links for use on Riverside County Parks’ websites; maintain consistency in updates of the site; maintain integrity of site information (updating data and relevant links).
Public Communications Intern – The internship will consist of helping the parks marketing staff with production of letters, reports, research, memos and spreadsheets. The process will involve both fieldwork and office work. In the field, the student intern will visit park facilities to assess the need of revising existing distribution material, as well as reaching the need for additional distribution material for the public. In the office, student interns will review a variety of reports including marketing publications and distribution material. Student interns will compile a variety of narrative reports locating sources of information and determining proper format for finished reports.
Planning Intern – Planning Interns follows procedures established for case processing; responsible for accuracy of computer tracking system updates; provides factual information regarding departmental policies, procedures and regulations to the public and other governmental agencies by telephone, personal contact or correspondence; conducts and prepares reports or special studies as required including tracking receipt of reports from biological and archeological consultants.
