Protected Areas and Ecological Reserves

Box Springs Mountain Reserve

⚠ WEATHER ALERT! Upper Box Springs Reserve is closed today (1-25-21) due to poor road conditions and excessive standing water in the parking area. Hidden Springs trailhead (lower Box Springs) remains open.

Box Springs Mountain Reserve is located on 3,400 beautiful acres of land that overlook the cities of Riverside and Moreno Valley. The Reserve once was covered in dense Coastal Sage Scrub, but recent wildfires have allowed non-native grasses to thrive. Visitors should be conscious of their activities while visiting the Reserve in order to protect wildlife and their delicate ecosystem.

The Reserve has several miles of multi-use trails that vary in difficulty. The mountain rises to over 3000 ft. in elevation providing breathtaking views of surrounding areas. Picnic tables and bathrooms are located at our two parking areas making this a great place to enjoy nature with friends and family.
