Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District (RivCoParks) is proud to announce a FREE Kids Fishing Clinic in collaboration with the California (CA) Department of Fish and Wildlife and Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation at Lake Skinner Park on March 31, 2018, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The fishing clinic will provide children in the community a chance to experience fishing in a fun and educational environment.
This opportunity to engage the community and provide an educational program on the basics of fishing was made possible through the support of various organizations including the Riverside County Parks Foundation, Turner’s Outdoorsman, Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation, and the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife. Participants will make their way through five educational stations covering all components of fishing, each with a different focus and purpose.
Stations will teach participants about biology, habitat and invasive species; how we affect the quality of water; fish handling, knot tying, bait and tackle; safety, ethics, rules and regulations; and, casting and rigging. After completing the learning stations, participants will be loaned a rod, provided with bait and tackle, and have the opportunity to fish for the remainder of the event, putting their newly acquired knowledge to the test. Participants are sure to reel in some fish with a fresh stock of rainbow trout donated by the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The fishing clinic will also offer children’s activity booths and prizes for participants.
