• Does this park have adequately paved paths to accommodate persons with limited mobility?

Cottonwood Campground is fully paved and in compliance with accessibility regulations, including handicap restrooms and showers. Lakeview Campground and Day Use areas are mostly unpaved, and restrooms and showers are not fully accessible. The newer sections of the park, including The Gopher Hole miniature golf and camp store, Pecan and Acorn shade shelters, splash pad, the cabins, and Cottonwood campground have ample paved walkways and designated handicapped parking. The Lakeview campground has paved paths near sites 6, 7, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 76 & 77 which allows access to the restrooms and front lake. The day-use area has designated handicapped parking with paved walking paths to the restrooms and each lake.

• What is the majority of the day use land like? How shaded is the day use area?

Day Use areas have a variety of features. The lake area is generally grassy with ample shade; there are both paved and dirt paths for walking and biking. There are open grass fields with trees as well as paved access to parking lots, bathrooms, playgrounds, and lakes. There is plenty of shade with scattered picnic tables and barbeque pedestals.

• What types of trails are within the park for walking, hiking, biking or horse riding?

Aside from the walking/biking paths around the park and campgrounds, including a path that loops around the Cottonwood campground and cabins, there are a few trails that branch out from the park toward the Louis Robidoux Nature Center. There is no camping or trail access designated for horses.

• How many playgrounds are in the park?

Rancho Jurupa Park has four different play areas. The “Red” playground is for children ages 2-5 years; the “Yellow” playground and “Splash Pad are both for general use; and the “Natural Play Area” is designed for older children.

• Are there any water-play/swim features? What are the months and hours of operation?

Our fun Splash Pad water play area contains fountains, sprinklers, spouts, and splashing buckets. The splash pad is generally available year-round on demand (pending scheduled maintenance and weather permitting) and runs until sunset. Swimming or other body contact is not permitted in the lake itself.

• How many shade structures/shelters are available in the park? How many picnic tables are under each?

There are a total of 11 shelters; the number of picnic tables beneath each of them varies with the size of the shelters. Shade shelters #1, #2, and #3 in the Lakeview Day Use Area no longer have electricity. 5 shelters can be reserved: Pecan/Acorn at the front entrance, 19 tables each. Shelters1 & 2 by the back lake, 6 tables each. Shelter 3 by the back lake has 9 tables.

• Does this park accept the $45 annual pass or an annual vehicle pass? If so, do you sell them on-site?

Yes, we accept the RivCoParks Annual Day Pass and do sell them on site.

• Does this park have an on-site store?

The Gopher Hole camp store is stocked with many provisions for campers as well as treats, deli items, hot coffee (black and seasonal flavors), hot chocolate, iced slush drinks, 5lb & 20lb bags of ice, kites, novelties, souvenirs, drinks, snacks, ice cream, milk, eggs, sandwiches, firewood, charcoal, lighter fluid, RV supplies, fishing poles, bait, etc. Access to bike rentals and miniature golf are also available here.

• Do you currently sell, or plan to sell, CA State Fishing licenses at this park?

We provide access to a computer and printer for customers to buy online through www.dfg.ca.gov Guests may use our Internet connection at the camp store to purchase a state fishing license.

• Are there laundry facilities on-site?

Yes, laundry facilities are located in Cottonwood campground. They are token-operated and available to all camping guests.

• Which campsites have the best shade?

Lakeview Campground has many mature shade trees that provide ample shade.

• What sites are “good for children”? (Near restrooms, open areas, etc.)

All sites are within reasonable proximity to restrooms and play areas. Cottonwood sites are farther apart, with good room to run around. Sites pull in the same direction, so you generally do not share your open area with your neighbor. Lakeview sites 13, 43, 44, 45, 46, 50, 51, 56, 57, 69, 80 all have large common areas great for playing.

• Which sites offer some level of privacy?

Campsites at this park are relatively close together, so none of them really qualify as “private.” Lakeview sites 19-42 have less traffic and may a little quieter.

• Which sites are best for tent camping?

Lakeview sites 13-80 are well-suited to tent camping. Lakeview sites 19-42 have good grass and less traffic.

• Which sites ae closest to the lake, and approximately how far?

Lakeview Sites 1-12 are approximately 50 feet from the lake. Lakeview sites 1-12 back up to the lake about 30yards or less, 69-80 are one row farther back.

• Are there any exceptions to the 2 vehicle/2 tent maximum?

There are no exceptions to the 2 vehicle/2 tent maximum. 2 vehicles are paid for on the site. Additional vehicles are $5 per day overflow fee. Most sites have room for no more than 2 tents. All sites are limited to a maximum of 6 people (all ages counted), no exceptions.

• Do all sites have a BBQ/fire ring and picnic table?

Every site should have a picnic table and fire ring/BBQ.

• Is there a dump station available to campers on-site?

Yes. Use of the dump station is complementary to campers. Those not camping may use the dump station for $15.

• What time are entry gates locked? Are campers able to exit and re-enter the park at any time?

Sunday-Thursday, entry gates will lock at approximately sunset. Call park for exact time. Friday and Saturday nights, the entry gates will lock at 10 pm; day-use gates lock at sunset. Campers are able to exit the park at any time. They may reenter by entering a gate access code, issued at time of check in.

• What information is needed when registering into a campsite?

Campers must present a valid driver’s license, current registration, and current insurance on their primary camping vehicle. Campers with reservations should inform us of their campsite number, and the last name the site is reserved under.

• Are campers allowed to check in before 2pm, or check out after 1pm?

Sites are not guaranteed before 2pm. If the requested site was unoccupied the night before, a camper may check-in early. Drop-in campers may be asked to wait until after 2pm before a site can be sold. Campers may check into their site early, if it is available. Potential late checkout depends on the circumstances. If a site is not reserved for new campers that day, late checkout may be granted or, if the stay extends more than an hour or two, the camper will be asked to pay another night’s fees.

• If a camper arrives early, or wishes to visit the park after check-out, is a day use fee charged? Is parking available for trailer or motor home?

Campers with reservations may register early and wait in the store parking lot until their site is available (if necessary). Drop-in campers who are unable to purchase a site upon entry must pay day-use fees or exit the park until a site is available. Temporary parking is available for rigs; a day use fee will be charged for park use before or after campsite availability. $6.00 per Adult, $3.00 per child 2-12 yrs., & children under 2 yrs. are free.

• How far is the nearest grocery store and gas station?

2 miles away from Stater Brothers (grocery store) and Valero gas station. 4 miles away from K-Mart, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, Albertsons, and Shell gas.

• What are other activities are in the area, such as trails, historical/natural sites, movies, entertainment, etc.

Historic Downtown Riverside is very close by. There are movie theaters, restaurants, the Fox Theater (plays and productions), libraries, museums, the Mission Inn, and various other cultural and urban attractions. The Louis Robidoux Nature Center is 1 mile away from the park, with a walking path accessible from the campgrounds. Mt. Rubidoux and the Santa Ana River Trail are 1.5 miles away and offer nice day-hiking opportunities.

• Does the park have cell phone reception?

Cell reception at this park is very good for most carriers.

• What sorts of animals/wildlife are common in the park?

Squirrels, rabbits, coyotes, mud hens/American Coots, hummingbirds, skunks, caterpillars and butterflies, ants, spiders, snakes, and other similar animals are common year-round.

• What precautions should be taken to avoid unpleasant encounters with wild animals?

Please be sure all pets are vaccinated and kept inside or on a leash no longer than 6 feet long at all times. If you encounter a potentially dangerous animal, do not approach it. Return to a safe area and notify a ranger ASAP. Please take precautions to secure food items.
